Learning outcomes

Basic course aimed at the conception, design and construction of architectural models. The aim of the course is to assimilate the theoric information through practical exercises that involve the testing of mainly manual techniques.

Course contents

The course aims to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary to independently select methods and technologies for the design and construction of physical architectural models (also known as *plastici* or *maquettes*).

The course is structured as a short series of lessons in which the characteristics of different types of architectural models will be explained, along with the materials, techniques, technologies, and tools used to create them; some of these will be tried out during a guided hands-on exercise. The goal of the course is to help understand, through the concrete example of the work done in the lab, the value of the model as a tool for analysis and verification during the design process and for communicating the project.

Teaching methods

The course includes an initial classroom activity in which, through a few short lectures, the subject will be introduced and the topic to be tackled as a guided practical exercise will be proposed.

Afterwards, for the exercise, students, in small groups, will have to design and create an Architecture Model in the ways agreed upon and guided by the teacher.

This activity will take place entirely within LaMo - Architecture Model Laboratory, which will provide the materials and equipment necessary for the creation of the Model.

Considering the types of activities and teaching methods used, attending this training activity requires completion of modules 1, 2, and 3 of the specific training on safety and health in study environments.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist of presenting the model and testing the knowledge acquired.

A positive outcome of the exam results in the assignment of a 'pass.' There is no numerical grade for this activity.

The office will propose any necessary adjustments, which must still be submitted to the teacher for approval at least 15 days in advance, who will evaluate their suitability in relation to the course learning objectives.

Teaching tools

For each lesson, the relative didactic material and the indications necessary for the progress of the exercise will be made available to the students.

It is foreseen the use of computer supports and equipment provided by the Degree Course and the Architectural Models Laboratory.
