Learning outcomes

The exercises will be held by Dr. Thérèse Manconi (CEL).

The student will be expected to apply the theoretical and practical tools learned in class that pertain to international and intercultural communication. They are also expected to use the learning methods developed during the course to be able to independently examine their skills and competences in depth, as well as to update them as to conduct their research in this area. Through practical exercises during these two years, their communicative competencies in all the abilities – active and passive – will reach a C2 level of the European Common Framework which will put them in the position to effectively interpret sociolinguistic and cultural codes of people involved in a communicative intercourse.

Course contents

Learning objectives : Mastering written and spoken language through a course of mediation. The class will concentrate on the analysis and interpretation of the social and cultural representations conveyed by the language of the media , it will also focus on the linguistic tools, stylistic and cultural expression, information and opinion from the analysis of different sources. At the end of the semester, the students should be able to elaborate the conceptual framework of various types of articles and write them in a clear, precise and effective language. LECTOR COURSE:

The exercises focus on oral production skills, especially communicative strategies in formal contexts, with particular emphasis on the integration of the transversal competence of mediation (cf. Volume Complémentaire du CECRL https://rm.coe.int/cecr-volume-complementaire-avec-de-nouveaux-descripteurs/16807875d5) . See also the descriptors defined by the CFR for languages (C1/C2).

- practical oral interaction activities to test and/or consolidate learners' knowledge and skills in terms of: cohesion and coherence of discourse, relevance of morphosyntactic structures, ability to reformulate easily, lexical repertoire, mastery of the phonological and prosodic system of the French language (see also levels C1 and C2 of the CFR for languages), on topics relating to linguistic and intercultural mediation;

- simulations of communication situations in specialist and professional contexts aimed at acquiring and consolidating communicative strategies in oral interaction as well as facilitating comprehension strategies for others.

- Particular attention will also be paid to classroom interaction and cooperation between peers (following the ‘Groupe de discussion entre pairs’ methodology).

Teaching methods

The purpose of the teaching activities is set within a communicative, ‘actionnelle’ perspective by which is meant the achievement of the teaching objectives through the completion of defined communicative ‘tâches’.

The active participation of the learners will be at the heart of the practical activities proposed.

Assessment methods

With regard to assessment, the use of AI is prohibited in assessments carried out in an uncontrolled environment; these will be validated following an analysis of the coursework produced and submitted as required, including, where applicable, through an oral examination.

At the end of the semester, the students should be able to elaborate the conceptual framework of various types of articles and write them in a clear, precise and effective language.The written test will consists in the drafting of an article that must meet two fundamental parameters that will be valued at par: 1-The conceptual framework of the article requested. 2-The mastering of the language (appropriate enunciation, precise vocabulary, style appropriate to the article type, proper syntax and sentences, effective argument, proper punctuation). The final verification of learning consists of an oral presentation of an argued point of view on one of the topics addressed during the exercises.

Teaching tools

The assessment criteria are those already laid down for DALF certificates (C1 / C2), particularly in terms of a) compliance with the delivery; b) cohesion and coherence of the text; c) richness of the syntactic and lexical repertoire, including the ability to reformulate easily; d) mastery of the phonological and prosodic system of the French language.
