B2537 - Written and Oral Communication in Russian (Second Language) I

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will dispose of an average communicative competence, both oral and written, in order to satisfy her/his basic needs in everyday life, in different social and professional domains.

Her/his competence should approximately reach B1 level of the Common European Framework.

Course contents

Verbal aspect: the general-factual meaning of the imperfective; choice of aspect in the infinitive, in negative constructions and in the imperative.

Verbs of motion with spatial prefixes (review).

Verbs of motion with non-spatial prefixes: cancellation of the result and figurative uses.

Participles and participial constructions: transformations involving relative clauses introduced by который (review).

Active and passive voice: passive constructions with imperfective verbs in -ся and passive participles of perfective verbs (review).

Temporal, causal, concessive and conditional subordinate clauses.

Adverbial participles (gerunds) and adverbial participial constructions: syntactic transformations.

Negative pronouns with не- and indefinite pronouns.

Long and short forms of adjectives (рад, должен, болен, занят); short forms of passive participles.

Teaching methods

The course is articulated in 40 hours of frontal lessons, in which the linguistic competences are mainly developed, and in many hours of laboratory activities, that privilege the communicative competences and practical language skills.

The tutorial lessons are part of the course and will be part of the exam program.

Assessment methods

The students are asked to do a written examination and an oral test.

The written test is to verify the linguistic competences, in particular elements of morphology and word-study, including the ability of written comprehension.

The oral test is focused on the communicative competences, on the ability of oral expression. The first part of the oral test is in Russian and is dedicated to the skill of speaking on historical, cultural, geo- social aspects of the country.

The second part of the oral exam is focused on the linguistics theoretical contents of the course programme.

The final grade is the result of the average between the written exam and the oral examinations.
