Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the student: learns the historical coordinates for the study of literature; knows the techniques of textual analysis; acquires a sure competence in writing and the ability to read in depth some fundamental works of our literary tradition.

Course contents

FATHERS AND SONS: ITALIAN LITERATURE AND FAMILY BONDS

PART A. (15 lessons): The first part of the course will focus on reading and commenting on exemplary texts of Italian literature, which will allow us to outline the indicated path. The lessons will start from Petrarca and arrive at Ungaretti.

PART B. (15 lessons): During the lessons of Module B the following readings will be covered:

Teaching methods

Lecture with the aid of educational and audiovisual materials that will be made available to students.

Assessment methods

The assessment consists of an oral examination.

The oral examination covers both Module A and Module B.

Grades are awarded on a 30-point scale and are based not only on the clarity of the student's oral presentation but also on the quality of preparation and the reasoning underpinning the arguments presented. In addition to assessing the quantity and quality of the knowledge demonstrated, the examination also evaluates the student's ability to provide in-depth explanations, support arguments with appropriate justification, and establish meaningful connections across the different texts included in the syllabus.

Fail: No answers provided, incorrect or insufficient answers, or overall superficial understanding.

18–19: Basic knowledge, occasionally somewhat confused.

20–22: Broad but not in-depth knowledge.

23–24: Fair overall knowledge and/or uneven quality of responses.

25–26: Good overall knowledge with some minor shortcomings (e.g. missing details or minor inaccuracies).

27–28: Consistently solid and well-assimilated knowledge.

29–30: Extensive and accurate knowledge, with the ability to analyse, synthesise, and critically elaborate on the material.

30 with honours (30 cum laude): Comprehensive mastery of the subject, excellent critical elaboration, and original insights.

The examination may be taken only after the end of the teaching period.

Students must register for the examination through AlmaEsami, strictly observing the published registration deadlines. Students who are unable to register due to technical issues are required to notify the Academic Office immediately. The instructor reserves the right to refuse admission to students who are not included on the official examination list. Skipping a scheduled examination session is not permitted.

Students participating in the Erasmus Programme or other international exchange programmes may arrange an individualised syllabus in agreement with the instructor.

Students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or temporary or permanent disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact the relevant University Office well in advance (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it ). The Office will propose any appropriate accommodations, which must be submitted to the instructor for approval at least 15 days before the examination. Approval will be granted insofar as the requested accommodations are compatible with the learning objectives of the course.
