93847 - Fatigue And Damage Tolerance

Academic Year 2026/2027

Learning outcomes

The integrated course Aerospace Structures provides the student with a comprehensive understanding of the mechanical behavior, analysis, and design of aerospace structures. Through the combination of classical analytical approaches, numerical simulation techniques, and design-oriented methodologies, the student develops the ability to evaluate stresses, strains, and stability phenomena in thin-walled and semi-monocoque configurations, and to apply these concepts to the conceptual and preliminary design of aircraft. In this module, the student studies the fatigue behavior of aerospace structures and the methodologies of damage-tolerant design. The course introduces advanced analytical and numerical methods for stress and strain evaluation and for the conceptual and preliminary design of aircraft. The student gains in-depth knowledge of fatigue life prediction and of the principles of safety and structural integrity in aerospace design.
