Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide the fundamental skills to manage, analyse and integrate geospatial data from different sources and at different scales, within a Geographic Information System (GIS). Students will be aware of the potentials and limitations of GIS systems for updating numerical cartography, generating thematic maps and supporting decision-making systems in the field of land management and urban planning. Students will also learn the approach to BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology and digital process management, deepening the essential standards and national regulations in force. Through practical exercises and the use of BIM-oriented software (e.g. Autodesk Revit), they will be able to develop and manage a pilot BIM model and generate the design documents.
Course contents
The following topics are discussed in the course.
Module 1- Introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the management of spatial data.
- Vector and raster dataset models.
- Main operators for spatial analysis.
- Georeferencing of digital maps by GIS software: algorithms and strategies.
- Use of digital terrain models (DTM) in GIS applications.
- Cadastral data management.
- Introduction to BIM methodology and relevant regulations.
- BIM applications in the built environment (HBIM).
- Basic usage of dedicated software.
- Modeling of architectural and structural elements.
- Production and extraction of project documents.
- BIM-GIS applications and data interoperability.
