Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have acquired advanced skills for further developing and deepening their proficiency in the use of IT tools and scientific computing.

Course contents

Course activities are structured into the following sub-modules:

  1. Microsoft Excel, Office Applications, and Open-Source / Cloud-Based Alternatives
  2. Relational Databases and SQL
  3. Introduction to LaTeX Language

Teaching materials will be uploaded directly by the teacher to the designated section of the course portal at https://virtuale.unibo.it/.

Teaching methods

This course participates in the University’s Integrated Digital Teaching (DDI) innovation initiative. According to the project's commitment to inclusivity, teaching will be delivered via distance learning through dedicated digital platforms.

A limited number of in-person sessions will be provided, during which the teacher will be available to assist students with specific software installation or LaTeX formatting issues.

All software utilized in the course is freely available for download and installation on students' personal computers, allowing them to engage in hands-on practice directly during the lectures.

In light of the nature of the activities and the teaching methodologies adopted, attendance in this course requires prior completion of Modules 1 and 2 of the mandatory Health and Safety Training in e-learning mode.

Teaching tools

The course utilizes both free and university-licensed software, enabling students to replicate the target workstation environment on their personal computers.

These applications are also available on the workstations in the Department of Mathematics Laboratory.

Participation in the DDI initiative provides students with additional digital resources, including access to a virtual classroom, shared course materials, and recorded lecture videos.
