Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in fundamental nursing care, demonstrating technical, interpersonal, and educational competencies in clinical practice. They will also be able to apply methodological principles for nursing care planning. Learning activities are integrated with the clinical placement experience and are closely aligned with the theoretical content of the course

Course contents

Clinical Skills Laboratories

The following clinical skills are covered during the Clinical Skills Laboratories:

  • Basic Life Support and Defibrillation (BLSD): Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques (competency will be assessed at the end of each laboratory session).
  • Paediatric Basic Life Support and Defibrillation (BLSDP): Paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques (competency will be assessed at the end of each laboratory session).
  • Endotracheal tube suctioning.
  • Tracheostomy management (tube replacement, cleaning, and dressing).
  • Arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and analysis.
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP).

  • Checklists and learning materials provided during the Clinical Skills Laboratories by the expert instructors.
  • Reference texts recommended by the instructors for each laboratory session.
  • Teaching methods

  • Small-group practical sessions supervised by an expert tutor, focusing on the clinical procedures outlined in the course programme.
  • Viewing of instructional videos.
  • Expert-led guided discussions.
  • Assessment methods

    The content covered in the Clinical Skills Laboratories will be assessed on a pass/fail basis, in accordance with the Degree Programme Regulations, through a written multiple-choice examination.

    The assessment will cover all the topics included in the laboratory programme.

    Teaching tools

    A range of medical devices and equipment, simulation manikins, and teaching materials (printed, online, and video resources) provided by the expert instructors leading the Clinical Skills Laboratories.
