Learning outcomes
By the end of the laboratory the student: knows the basic processes and techniques related to the creation, writing, production, packaging and distribution of film and tv products; knows how to place film and tv production within the broader context of the creation of contents for media and cultural industries; is able to contribute autonomously to the creation of an audiovisual product.
Course contents
The workshop covers the fundamentals of film grammar, with an introduction to the semiotic analysis of the audiovisual text. On this basis, the course develops the notion of positioning: how choices of language (framing, editing rhythm, sound, register) are reconfigured as the target audience changes.
In the workshop component, students create a short audiovisual product, adapting its language to a chosen target or building the launch of an unprecedented collaboration between a brand and a creator, with constant theoretical, technical and practical support from the lecturer.
Readings/Bibliography
Main reference: G. Rondolino, D. Tomasi, Manuale del film. Linguaggio, racconto, analisi, Novara, De Agostini Scuola, 2018.
Handouts and materials provided by the lecturer on Virtuale. Any supplementary readings will be indicated during the lessons.
Teaching methods
The course alternates short lectures introducing theory with in-class exercises and workshop activities. Students take an active part and create, edit and produce short audiovisual texts; the use of a smartphone and of editing software is required, with the possible aid of generative AI under the supervision of the lecturer and subject to her prior approval of its critical use, which must not replace the students' own creativity. The course is taught in Italian.
Assessment methods
The examination assesses both theoretical competences and practical and design-related ones.
Attending students (attendance equal to or above 75% of the lessons) take:
- a written test with multiple-choice questions on the fundamentals of audiovisual language (weighting: 30%);
- a workshop project, individual or in groups (maximum 3 people), developed during the course and presented to the class in the final lessons, accompanied by a presentation (weighting: 70%).
Non-attending students take a single written test, held in a computer lab with restricted internet access, consisting of multiple-choice questions and some open-ended questions on the topics covered in the course.
The use of generative AI tools in the project is permitted only if declared and critically documented; undeclared use constitutes a breach of the examination rules.
Teaching tools
Slides and teaching materials on Virtuale; written test and submission of projects through the University's platforms.
