99203 - Seminars on Safety of Care (FA)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student is able to recognize the risks for operators and patients in different care settings and applies the knowledge to ensure safety.

Course contents

The contents are taken directly from the relevant legislative source - Article 37 of Legislative Decree 81/2008

* Healthcare work environments - specific characteristics;

* Manual handling of loads and Patients;

* Physical risks (noise, vibrations, microclimate, etc.);

* Chemical risk (individual and collective protection);

* Medical gases in cylinders;

* Work-related stress, psychosocial discomfort, violence from third parties, and gender differences;

* Instructions for managing emergencies in the workplaces of AUSL Romagna;

* Biological risk, health surveillance, vaccinations, working mothers, night work;

* Risks from ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation.

There will be presentations on clinical risk and on the techniques to involve patients and caregivers in promoting safety in hospital and home care settings. The use of procedures and health documentation in use within AUSL Romagna will also be illustrated, along with the corporate tools for operating safely.

Required Knowledge

Students must possess basic knowledge of safety, risk, and prevention, understand the healthcare context, the principles of hygiene (in particular hand hygiene and basic use of PPE), as well as essential elements of anatomy and communication in a care setting.

Useful Knowledge

It is advantageous to have preliminary familiarity with the main health risks, technical terminology, patient safety concepts, and, if possible, initial exposure (even theoretical or observational) to care practices and the tools used.

Teaching methods

Interactive lesson using micro-case studies for the application of theory in nursing practice.

Assessment methods

The assessment of knowledge will be evaluated through multiple-choice tests on a computer-based platform. Regarding the assessment of learning, the use of AI is prohibited. Any use constitutes a violation of academic integrity.

Students with DSA or temporary or permanent disabilities: it's recommended to contact the relevant university office in advance (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it); they will take care of proposing possible adjustments for the students, which still need to be submitted to the teacher for approval 15 days in advance, who will evaluate their suitability also in relation to the educational objectives of the course.
