Course contents

PLEASE NOTE This is a pilot laboratory and is subject to constraints beyond the instructor's control.

The laboratory offers an experiential and reflective learning pathway focused on exploring the educational potential of prison settings.

Through a combination of sessions held at the university (led by the instructor and invited experts) and activities conducted within the correctional facility, participants will be invited to engage with the prison not merely as an institution, but as a context inhabited by people, relationships, educational practices, and opportunities for mutual transformation and co-evolution.

The laboratory is grounded in the idea that learning emerges through direct experience and dialogue, recognizing the encounter between the university and the prison as a unique opportunity to critically reflect on the meanings of education, citizenship, and living together in society.

Access to the correctional facility will be subject to the availability of the institution (Rocco D'Amato Prison, Bologna) and to the verification by the prison administration that each participant meets the eligibility requirements for entry. These requirements include the absence of disqualifying criminal convictions and pending criminal proceedings.

Teaching methods

Discussions, assigned readings, meetings with invited experts, reflective dialogue, and World Café.

 

Assessment methods

Students are assessed on the basis of the work completed, their active participation throughout the laboratory, and their reflective engagement with the learning experience, demonstrated during the final session through either a written reflection or a collective discussion.

Attendance is compulsory for at least 18 of the 24 scheduled hours.
