Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, students will have acquired knowledge, within the scope of their professional competence, in the field of legal medicine. Specific areas covered include social medicine, criminology, forensic psychopathology, forensic toxicology, professional ethics, medical ethics, and clinical bioethics.

Legal status of healthcare professionals.

Professional secrecy.

Reports to the judicial authorities.

Overview of forensic traumatology.

Overview of forensic thanatology.

Determination of death.

Crimes against life and personal safety.

Sexual violence.

Voluntary termination of pregnancy.

Compulsory medical treatment.

Any recent textbook of Legal Medicine.

Teaching materials will be provided during the course, and the lecture slides will be available on the VIRTUALE platform.

Teaching methods

The module consists of lectures supported by presentations and complemented by the discussion of medico-legal cases related to nursing practice.

The following activities will be included:

  • guided analysis of real-life professional situations;
  • discussion of case studies.

The materials used during the lectures will be made available on the VIRTUALE platform.

Assessment methods

The examination consists of a 15-minute written multiple-choice test designed to assess the achievement of the course learning outcomes and, in particular, students’ knowledge of the main medico-legal issues related to nursing practice.

The test consists of 10 questions. Each correct answer is worth 3 points, while incorrect or unanswered questions are worth 0 points.

The maximum score is 30 points. The examination is passed with a minimum score of 18 points.
