Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will have acquired the knowledge required to develop competency profiles, formulate learning objectives, select appropriate learning activities, design and implement core curricula based on educational principles and theories, and revise curricula in response to current trends in society and healthcare.

Course contents

This course introduces the principles of continuing professional education in healthcare, outlining its aims, key characteristics, and main types. It also examines the different stages of the educational process, from learning needs assessment to the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational interventions, with particular emphasis on the alignment between learning objectives, teaching methods, and assessment strategies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

• distinguish the main types of education and training in healthcare;
• describe and identify the different stages of the educational process, including learning needs assessment, instructional design, implementation, and evaluation of educational interventions;
• identify the different levels of learning and relate them to the most appropriate teaching methods and assessment strategies;
• design educational interventions that are aligned with identified learning needs and intended learning outcomes.

Assessment methods

Assessment Methods

Students will be required to design an educational intervention encompassing all stages of the educational process, including learning needs assessment, instructional design, implementation, and evaluation. The project should describe the teaching methods adopted and the expected impact on the organization and on the professional development of healthcare practitioners.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment will be based on the completeness and quality of the educational project, adherence to the submission deadline, and the student's ability to present and discuss the project effectively. Additional questions may be asked to further explore topics related to the submitted project.

Grades will be awarded according to the following criteria:

• 30 cum laude (30L): Outstanding educational project, timely submission, and excellent presentation and discussion.
• 24–30: Comprehensive and well-developed educational project with a clear and effective presentation.
• 18–23: Satisfactory educational project with an adequate but less confident presentation.

The module is considered passed only if all the other modules within the integrated course are also successfully completed.

The examination will be conducted in accordance with the University Regulations (which students are encouraged to consult) and any additional instructions issued by the relevant Academic Authorities.

Books, lecture slides, scientific articles, documents, activity sheets, and practical exercises provided by the instructor to support the application of the knowledge and skills acquired during the course.
