Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop, the student: - knows how to apply what was covered in the integrated course within a simulated learning environment; - knows how to critically reflect on the proposed topics in a group.

Course contents

The workshop is titled "Paintings to Listen to." The journey will begin with a sensory analysis of a small gallery of artworks from different eras. The work will therefore focus on "listening" to them. Each visual content offered by the painting will be interpreted from an aural perspective: it will become an evocative source of noises, voices, and music. The next step will be the reverse: the painting will listen to us; we will speak to the painting, asking it questions, expressing thoughts, emotions, and memories it evokes. We can also recite a poem, a nursery rhyme, or sing a song. Everything will be recorded and acquired for use in a podcast to be associated with each painting.

Assessment methods

Active participation in the workshop and the final output (both in groups and individually) will be assessed. The workshop evaluation will contribute to the final grade for the written exam in Iconography and Iconology. Specifically, the evaluation will consist of a failure (in which case, the student will not be able to take the exam and will be required to retake the workshop the following year) or a score of -1/0/+1 compared to the grade obtained in the written exam in Iconography and Iconology, out of 30.

Teaching tools

Archive of images and audio files (sound effects, music tracks, online voiceovers); smartphone for audio recording; Audacity or another free audio editing app.
