Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student possesses knowledge relating to epidemiological aspects, methodologies and intervention models for health promotion, health education for the individual and the community.

Course contents

Health, Community Services and Health Policies

  • Health as a dynamic, multidimensional and socially determined process in current demographic, epidemiological and socioeconomic scenarios.
  • Health policies and the reorganisation of community care in light of the D.M. 77/2022, the Piano Nazionale della Prevenzione (PNP) and the Piano Nazionale Cronicità (PNC).
  • Access to health and social care services and the community service network ensuring continuity of care and health-social care integration.

Health Promotion, Health Literacy and Cultural Welfare

  • From a culture of care to a culture of health education and health promotion.
  • Cultural welfare: definitions, principles and applications in healthcare and health-social care settings.
  • The relationship between culture, health and well-being.
  • Health Literacy: concepts, levels and strategies to improve the health skills of the population.

Health Education and Prevention

  • Health education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
  • Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
  • Screening programmes.
  • Vaccination strategies and countering vaccine hesitancy.

Nursing Competence in the Care Network for Disability, Frailty and Dementia

  • The evolution of the concept of disability and the main regulatory references, with particular reference to the D.Lgs. 62/2024.
  • Multidimensional assessment of older, frail and disabled persons.
  • Assessment of caregivers and of formal and informal support networks.
  • Seminar with an expert patient/trainer (Jonny Vicchi) on the experience of illness, disability and participation in care pathways.

The Role of the Nurse in Community and Territorial Settings

  • The Family and Community Nurse: competencies, responsibilities and organisational models.
  • Networking and multiprofessional integration in community services.
  • Nursing care in contexts of particular vulnerability, with a focus on prison settings.

Management of Interdisciplinary Teams

  • Principles of teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Coordination of care pathways and continuity of care.
  • Leadership, communication and conflict management in community teams.
  • Tools for professional integration and shared care planning.

Teaching methods

Teaching is delivered through lectures, supported by the Virtuale platform for sharing teaching materials and further study resources.

Additional learning activities include screening and guided discussion of films, a seminar with an expert patient/trainer, and plenary discussions of clinical cases, aimed at promoting active learning, critical reflection and the integration of theory and professional practice.

Assessment methods

Admission to the examination requires attendance of at least 66% of the total lessons.

Oral examination with questions on the course content and discussion of clinical and nursing care cases, aimed at assessing knowledge of the topics covered, critical reasoning skills and the ability to apply knowledge to prevention, community and territorial care settings.

Group activities carried out during the lessons may be used as topics for discussion in the oral examination.

Preventive Nursing is part of the integrated course in Community Nursing Sciences. Students may take the examination for this single module from the July 2027 session, and the result will remain valid up to and including the January 2028 session. If the integrated course has not been completed and recorded by the end of the February 2028 examination session, any individual module examinations passed will be forfeited.
