Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student applies the knowledge acquired relating to technical, relational and educational skills. Develops methodological skills relating to care planning. The activity is developed in correlation with the internship path and the contents.

Course contents

PERSONAL CARE – Functional model of activity and physical exercise

• Busy bed making

• Hygiene and dressing of the patient

• Patient mobilization

CARDIO, CIRCULATORY AND RESPIRATORY FUNCTION – Functional model of activity and physical exercise

• Detection of vital parameters and carrying out capillary blood glucose

• Performing the electrocardiogram
• CPR: cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• O2 therapy management
• Aerosol therapy management

DIET, NUTRITION AND SKIN INTEGRITY – Nutritional and metabolic model

• Surgical wound dressing

URINARY AND INTESTINAL ELIMINATION – Model of elimination

• Insertion and management of indwelling bladder catheter and intermittent bladder catheter
• Urine sample collection
• Administration of the evacuative enema

THERAPY MANAGEMENT AND PERIPHERAL VENOUS ACCESSES – Health perception and management model

• Management of parenteral therapy:
  intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal
• and administering insulin therapy
• Venous access management: CVP, venipuncture, blood culture and intravenous therapy

Teaching methods

Interactive lessons in small groups through simulations and exercises using mannequins and/or actors and medical aids.

Division of students into groups and subgroups.

Provision of workstations specially equipped to reconstruct specific care contexts, managed by a educator tutor assisted by a clinical tutor or by a 3rd year student of the Degree Course.

Each student must participate in all scheduled care situations

Attendance is compulsory (100%) and is documented with signature detection.

In the event of any absences, each student must agree with the head of the professional laboratory 1 on the methods and times for the necessary recovery.

Assessment methods

The learning assessment consists of an individual practical exam designed to verify the acquisition of the technical and care-related skills and clinical reasoning developed during Professional Workshop 1.

Participation in all scheduled activities is mandatory. Attendance, equal to 100% of the scheduled hours, is documented through attendance records.
Any absences must be made up according to the procedures and schedule agreed upon with the Professional Laboratory 1 Coordinator.

The Committee, composed of at least two instructional tutors, assigns by lottery one of the nursing procedures outlined in the program. The student is required to provide a comprehensive and appropriate explanation of the following:

• definition, purpose, and indications;
• related professional responsibilities;
• assessment and preparation of the patient;
• necessary materials and resources;
• operational steps of the procedure;
• patient care during the procedure;

• risks, complications, and related preventive measures;
• recording and documentation of care.

The exam is supplemented by in-depth questions designed to assess the student’s ability to link care procedures to the principles of safety and quality of care. In particular, topics related to the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), clinical risk management (falls, restraints, and pressure injuries), and the management of medical waste may be addressed.

A student is deemed to have passed if they demonstrate attainment of the Acceptable Levels of Performance (ALP) through a correct description of the procedure, the use of appropriate professional terminology, the ability to justify the care decisions made, and the application of clinical reasoning in managing the proposed care situation.

The exam lasts approximately 20 minutes. Two exam sessions are guaranteed for each exam period.

Teaching tools

The training activities make use of tools and materials designed to promote experiential learning and the acquisition of basic nursing skills, including:

• manikins for simulating nursing procedures;
• medical devices and equipment used in clinical practice;
  
• instructional worksheets and supplementary materials related to lab topics;
• institutional procedures and reference care documentation;
  any instructional materials made available through the University’s institutional platforms.

The integrated use of these tools allows students to practice technical skills, develop decision-making abilities, and strengthen the connection between theory, laboratory work, and clinical internships.
