Learning outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding: Know the main types of psychotherapeutic interventions for the treatment of psychological distress; understand the criteria that guide the indication for psychotherapy in relation to the characteristics of the patient. Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Analyze and evaluate changes in relational processes, introspection, and empathy associated with psychotherapy; apply strategies to prevent burnout and manage complex cases in interprofessional teams. Making Judgements: Recognize burnout and the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions in relation to the characteristics of the patient and the interprofessional context. Communication Skills: Communicate the criteria of psychotherapies and therapeutic strategies in clinical and interprofessional contexts. Learning Skills: Reflect on one's educational experience to enhance introspection, empathy, and interprofessional skills in managing complex cases.
Course contents
Mentalization and attachment: general concepts and applications to building the therapeutic relationship. Vulnerability and protection factors in the context of stress associated with clinical training. Vulnerability and protection factors in the context of stress associated with clinical work. Stress, somatic symptoms, depressive symptoms, burnout symptoms. Assessment and evaluation tools in clinical psychology. Elements of Psychotherapy. Elements of burnout prevention.
Readings/Bibliography
The purchase of specific texts is not necessary. Materials will be provided in class: teaching materials also available through username and password at the Virtual University of Bologna, references to recommended texts.
Teaching methods
The following teaching methods will be used: Lectures, Discussion of clinical cases with the aid of videos, Group supervision of clinical cases.
Assessment methods
Learning will be evaluated through a written test. The test consists of 15 true/false questions. Pass marks require a total score of 9 out of 15 correct answers.
Teaching tools
Slides, videos, clinical case presentations, and interactions with students will be used.
