Learning outcomes

The Lingua Italiana L2 course lasts one semester and will focus mainly on the grammar content of levels A2 and B1, but with a flexible adaptation of the programme to the actual level of the participants.

This is not a course for absolute beginners. Students who do not have the necessary basic skills will be offered the opportunity to take part in extra remedial activities through tutoring (more information will be provided by the teacher).

Pleas note: BAES students are reminded that their reference course of Italian Language/ Lingua Italiana L2 corresponds to the Class1 held by Greta Zanoni, which is offered only at the Forlì Campus and that the language of lectures will be Italian.

Course contents

The course will be divided as follows:


• two weekly meetings held by Anna Zingaro;
• a weekly meeting held by Teresa Quarta (lettorato)

 

The following (general) schedule is subject to changes according to the linguistic needs of the students.

 

Topics
Language curriculum, news and past events, family and social roles, opinions and feelings, travelling in Italy (differences among the Italian regions, stereotypes, gastronomy.

Grammar content
- Revision of the opposition passato prossimo vs. imperfetto
- Revision of the present and past subjunctive
- Revision of the present conditional
- Revision of the direct and indirect pronouns, ci, ne, combined pronouns
- Use of the subjunctive, particularly in subordinate clauses, time selection of the subjunctive

Any extra content for levels above B1:

- Use of the past conditional
- Hypothetical constructions
- Connectors

Abilities

Listening:
- understand speeches on topics of personal interest (basic information about oneself and one's family, shopping, place of residence, work); understand the main idea from short, clear and simple messages and announcements;

- understand the main ideas of radio or television programmes dealing with current affairs or issues of personal or professional interest, when the speech is relatively slow and clear.

Reading:
- read short, simple texts, find specific information in simple, everyday writing such as advertisements, brochures, menus and timetables; understand short, simple personal writing;

- understand texts written in everyday language or related to work; understand the description of events, feelings and desires in personal writing.

Speaking:

Interaction:
- communicate in simple and common activities that require a simple and direct exchange of information on everyday activities and business;

- handle almost all situations that arise when travelling where that language is spoken. Be able to participate spontaneously in a conversation that deals with everyday topics of personal interest or that are relevant to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events).

Oral production:
- use expressions and phrases to describe in simple terms your family and other people, your living conditions, your education and your current or last job;

- link sentences in a simple way to describe experiences and events, your dreams, hopes and ambitions; briefly explain and justify your opinions and plans; tell a story, the plot of a book or film and describe your reactions.

Written production:
- be able to write short, simple texts about immediate needs and personal matters;

- be able to write simple, coherent texts on topics that are familiar or of personal interest; be able to write personal texts describing experiences and impressions.

Lettorato: oral production exercises and interaction

Assessment methods

Assessment includes a written and an oral test, on which information will be provided in class.

  1. Written test (text comprehension and written production) it will be held during the last class of the course;
  2. Oral exam: debate in pairs on a previously given topic.

Students must have passed the written test in order to access the oral exam. For the written test, the use of the dictionary is not allowed.

 

Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

Students with specific learning difficulties (SpLD) or with disabilities that can affect their ability to attend courses are invited to contact the University service for students with disabilities and SLD at the earliest opportunity -- ideally before the start of the course.

The University service will suggest possible adjustments to the course work and/or exam, which must then be submitted to the course leader so they can assess their feasibility, in line with the learning objectives of the course.
