Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, students will have acquired specific skills regarding trauma care in Emilia-Romagna, starting with the integrated care system, the role of nurses in out-of-hospital emergency care and trauma nurses in the emergency room, from the diagnostic phases to intensive care, and the mechanisms of injury and classification of trauma. The course aims to develop practical skills in the assessment and management of major trauma, with a focus on life-saving maneuvers, bleeding management, neuroprotection, and the treatment of wounds and burns in emergencies, ensuring comprehensive care that accompanies the patient from the moment of trauma to rehabilitation.

Biomechanics and classification criteria for major trauma
Immobilization and transport systems
Integrated Major Trauma Care System (S.I.A.T)
Trauma team: role and responsibilities of nurses
Communication within the trauma team
Assessment of severe trauma
Head and spinal trauma, neuroprotection
Thoracic/abdominal/skeletal trauma
Thermal trauma
Hemorrhagic trauma: classes of hemorrhage, shock and treatment, blood protocol and massive transfusion protocol, invasive devices and monitoring
Pre-hospital care – emergency room care and possible pathways – rehabilitation – continuity of care

Assessment methods
Access to the exam is subject to achieving a minimum attendance rate of 66%.
Written exam: 30 multiple-choice questions with 4 answer options, only one of which is correct. 1 short-answer question.
Honors will be awarded if the student answers all questions correctly, in addition to the short-answer question.
The exam is considered passed with a minimum of 18 correct answers out of 30.
Exam duration: 30 minutes.
