Readings/Bibliography
The study materials will be made available on the Virtuale platform before the start and throughout the progression of the course. The classes will use teaching materials specially prepared for the learning enhancement of students (e.g., scientific articles, research reports, study excerpts). Additional learning resources will be recommended by the professor during the course to supplement students’ comprehension of the topics.
Teaching methods
The course schedule consists of 5 meetings in presence with a duration of 3 hours each meeting.
The course is designed to be interactive, expecting students’ active participation during traditional lectures, group discussions, practical exercises, and student presentations. Students will practice applying their relevant knowledge and skills during exercises that are based on real-life scenarios, which work and organizational psychologists can encounter in their career (e.g., diagnosing workplace issues, proposing and designing tailored-fit and sustainable solutions, searching for work opportunities through individual and networking strategies).
Using the course as an opportunity to improve their knowledge of the Italian context by discussing pertinent topics in work and organizational psychology, as well as an occasion to hone their Italian language skills, students are highly recommended to attend all the lectures. At the start of each meeting, the attendance of all students will be checked. Only those who have attended 60% of the course in presence will be able to participate in the final assessment.
Assessment methods
The final assessment will not involve a grade (i.e., pass / fail) and will be based on 2 outputs:
(1) A presentation of an intervention design / proposal in response to the needs of a targeted workplace population by applying recent insights from work and organizational psychology research conducted in Italy.
This output will assess students’ demonstration and achievement of the following didactic objectives:
- A clear understanding of the expected knowledge and skills of a work and organizational psychologist in Italy
- A coherent manner of critical analysis when identifying workplace needs and proposing intervention designs to address the workplace issue
(2) A 1-page individual report containing the results of the exercises performed throughout the course.
Teaching tools
The Virtuale platform will serve as the main tool of the course to support teaching activities. On virtuale.unibo.it, it will be possible to download the lesson slides, exercises, and other resources. At the start of the course, all relevant course information (e.g., activities, deadlines) will be shared on the platform.
