Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will have knowledge of: (a) the main psychological theories in cultural psychology; (b) the psychological processes involved in self-knowledge and interpersonal relationships; (c) topics related to the formation of attitudes, opinions, and behaviors; (d) communication processes; (e) discourse as a social and cultural practice; (f) social influence and models of persuasive communication, useful for understanding and managing interpersonal and group dynamics.

Course contents

The course addresses the classic themes of cultural psychology and related psychological dynamics, with a focus on two major authors: Vygotsky and Bruner, as well as Michael Cole and John Berry. In addition to foundational concepts, the course explores topics such as the self and culture, multiculturalism and interculturality, cultural artifacts, discursive practices, and cultural prejudice. A specific section will be dedicated to educational contexts, including group relations, family, education, and training.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a written test made up of three open-ended questions. The final grade will be expressed out of thirty.

The evaluation will take into account not only the knowledge of theoretical content, but also transversal skills such as:

  • the accurate use of psychological terminology

  • the ability to describe experiments and theoretical approaches

  • clarity of expression

  • the ability to engage in critical reflection
