Learning outcomes

The course provides the basic concepts and tools for analyzing the company in its core elements, in relation with the external environment, and with its main stakeholders. In particular, at the end of the course the student is able to: - know the main theories of the company; - place the company within its socio-economic system; - analyze the external environment of the company; - define the business of the company; - systematically analyze resources and skills; - understand the role of digitalization in business management.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and analytical tools for understanding the firm in its essential components, its relationship with the external environment, and its key stakeholders. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand and compare the main theories of the firm;

  • Situate the firm within its broader socio-economic context;

  • Analyze the external environment and its impact on business strategy;

  • Implement the "business defintion" of a company: Define the firm’s core business and strategic orientation;

  • Analyze the firm's internal envirnoment: Assess resources and capabilities through a systematic framework;
