Academic Year 2025/2026

Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop, the student will:

  • be able to apply the specific techniques learned, both independently and within projects coordinated by institutions;

  • be capable of collaborating and exchanging views with other professionals on how to use and document the techniques acquired;

  • be able to situate the knowledge gained within different types of services and settings;

  • be able to evaluate the strengths and limitations of the technical tools and methods learned;

  • be able to adapt and transfer the acquired methods to diverse contexts, making appropriate personal modifications and enhancements where needed.

Course contents

How does the educator intervene when the request for help has not yet been explicitly expressed? What kind of supportive relationship do we activate in street work?

The workshop addresses issues such as marginalization and the dynamics of social exclusion affecting various groups of people, following the working approach of the Università della Strada (University of the Street). This approach is characterized by fundamental choices that can be summarized through a few key concepts:

  • welcoming and analysing the needs in order to design and implement social support pathways;

  • harm reduction and the implementation of “low-threshold” interventions;

  • continuity of relationships that can operate over the long term;

  • the group as a place for the educational process and as an intervention method;

  • the “political” perspective within which the “technical” dimension of the interventions is situated.

During the workshop, the outreach method and the key skills required of street workers will be explored in depth.

The workshop will take place in the second semester and will consist of:
a) an initial preparatory meeting;
b) training at the Università della Strada of the Gruppo Abele in Turin;
c) a final feedback session

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION DEADLINE: to be confirmed

Assessment methods

Students are assessed based on the work carried out during the workshop and through their reflective reworking of the workshop experience in written form, which will be completed during the final session.

Teaching tools

Students can explore the topics covered in the workshop in greater depth through the texts, videos, audio materials, and posts listed in the Bibliography.

In class, time is dedicated to watching stimulating video clips to encourage discussion, group work, and the sociological, anthropological, and pedagogical exploration of the topics addressed.
