Learning outcomes

At the end of the activity, the student is able to: • choose the most suitable tools in relation to the objective to be achieved; • choose the most appropriate technique in relation to the objective of the service in which he is called to operate; • identify the complementary professional resources to complete his intervention; • establish the methods for evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions; • analyze the relational and institutional context in which he carries out his intervention.

Course contents

The internship program includes the following activities:

Activities in the presence of a tutor: The activities related to motor and/or cognitive assessment, enhancement, and rehabilitation include: receiving questions and needs, interviewing applicants, preparing informed consent forms, and processing participant data in accordance with professional ethics; research methodology; implementing testing theories and techniques; and introducing statistical analysis; administering the main test reagents; scoring and interpreting results; and developing a test battery containing validated or ad hoc tools for assessing the identified psychological dimensions. Evaluation and preparation of possible actions to be implemented following incidental findings; and practical implications of the findings for the design and evaluation of rehabilitation interventions.

Increasingly independent activities under the supervision of a tutor: The motor and/or cognitive assessment, enhancement, and rehabilitation program includes activities such as receiving questions and needs, interviewing applicants, designing and drafting informed consent forms and data processing for participants in accordance with professional ethics, applying research methodology and testing theories and techniques, practicing statistical analysis skills, self-administering tests, scoring and discussing the interpretation of results with the laboratory team, generating proposals for actions to be implemented following incidental findings and the practical implications of the results, and evaluating rehabilitation interventions.

The professional contexts of application include schools, healthcare, businesses, and research.

The areas of intervention include applied research in sports psychology, cognitive-motor rehabilitation, and life cycle psychology (children and the elderly).

The target audience for this activity includes adults, seniors, students, children, adolescents, and patients with cognitive and/or motor impairments or specific physical conditions (e.g., amputation).

The professional tools the intern will acquire include the following: administration and interpretation of standardized maximum-performance psychological tests (e.g., MOCA; Short Test for IdeoMotor Aapraxia; Raven's progressive matrices; attention matrices; barrage tests; semantic and phonemic fluency; trail-making task; Rey's word list for memory; Stroop), personality and clinical tests (e.g., Dusseldorf Orthorexia Scale; Muscle Dysmorphia Inventory; International Personality Item Pool; Toronto Alexitymia Scale; Eating Attitude Test), anamnesis interviews, conducting and evaluating behavioral observations, and the use of statistical analysis software and other specific technical tools (e.g., EEG, EMG, autonomic recordings, eye movement recordings, and kinematic recordings).

Readings/Bibliography

Scientific articles and other teaching materials provided by the tutor.

Teaching methods

The methods used to achieve these skills include: participation in discussions with the tutor, support from the tutor for practical demonstrations and simulations, group activities with other interns, activities guided and supervised by the tutor, and progressively independent activities with deferred supervision by the tutor.

Assessment methods

The tutor will evaluate the skills acquired by the intern during and at the end of the internship using a standardized procedure developed by the Department of Psychology, which will result in a valid qualification for access to the Practical Evaluation Test.
