Course contents

Significance of monitoring vital signs and cardiovascular implications when abnormal values are found (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, urine output, body temperature)

Diagnosis of cardiac chest pain: stable angina, unstable angina, and acute myocardial infarction; non-ischemic cardiovascular chest pain (dissecting aortic aneurysm, pericarditis, pneumothorax, pulmonary embolism).

Pathophysiology of stable angina and acute coronary syndromes. Clinical presentation: stable angina and acute coronary syndromes. Principles of treatment: stable angina and acute coronary syndromes.

Chronic heart failure and acute heart failure (acute pulmonary edema). Causes, clinical presentation, and principles of treatment. Role of the podiatrist.

Valvular heart disease (epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic testing). In-depth study of aortic valve stenosis.

Cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, endocarditis, pericarditis: brief overview of clinical features and prognosis.

Normal ECG. Meaning of P, QRS, T waves and ST segment.

Arrhythmias (classification: bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias). Atrial fibrillation. Malignant ventricular tachyarrhythmias.

Instrumental examinations in cardiology (ECG, stress test, ultrasound, scintigraphy, angiography, magnetic resonance imaging, new endovascular imaging techniques), indications for their use and limitations.

Tasks and priorities in cardiovascular emergencies.
