Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows the specific regulations on workplace safety applicable on construction sites, the organization and management of safety, the identification of risk factors for the health and safety of workers and the prevention measures and collective and individual protection applicable to the construction sector.
Course contents
- Title IV of Legislative Decree 81/08 – Scope and definitions. The organization of safety on construction sites.
- Obligations and responsibilities regarding health and safety at work of construction site figures.
- The tools for planning and managing safety on construction sites (Safety and Coordination Plan and Operational Safety Plan).
- The main risk factors for health and safety at work in the construction sector in the various operational phases.
- Types of construction works and general organization of the construction site (fencing, sanitary services, roads, etc.).
- The risks and safety measures in demolition works.
- The risks and safety measures in excavation works.
- The main collective protection measures (DPC) used in the construction sector to prevent the risk of falling from a height.
- Temporary works: metal scaffolding (types, characteristics, documentation, installation and correct use in safety).
- The main machines and equipment used on construction sites with the related safety measures and devices.
- Personal protective equipment against falls from heights. Components, accessories and safety requirements for correct use.
- Electrical risk on construction sites: safety requirements and components of the construction site electrical system.

Lectures, analysis of real construction site situations
Assessment methods
Written test with 40 multiple choice questions and 1 open-ended question on the knowledge acquired on the main organisational, managerial and technical measures regarding health and safety at work applicable on construction sites.
The exam (eligibility) will be passed if the student correctly answers at least 75% of the closed questions (30 correct answers) and the open question sufficiently.
