Learning outcomes

At the end of the teaching module the student possesses the basic knowledge relating to high-tech medical devices for the treatment of pathologies, particularly of a neurological nature, as well as the ability to plan their study and development through methodologies, work tools and production techniques, even to the preparation of the documentation required for carrying out clinical evaluation studies.

Course contents

The course aims to provide students with an overview of the methodologies and tools needed to develop medical devices for the treatment of orthopedic and neurological conditions.

The following topics will be explored in depth:

  1. Approach to the design of advanced technical devices: design workflow, methods, and tools
  2. Advanced technical devices for the treatment of neurological patients and amputees
  3. Device subsystems: top-down and bottom-up design approaches
  4. Prototyping equipment
  5. Notes on device validation procedures (clinical studies on medical devices) and regulatory aspects
