Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student has the general and basic knowledge of surgical wounds and scars, sutures and materials used for sutures. In particular, the student is able to: - underestimate the choice of prosthetic materials to be applied on patients undergoing surgery; - choose the most suitable solutions in relation to the surgical scar.

APPROACH TO THE SURGICAL PATIENT: METHODS AND CHALLENGES

THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE: TECHNICAL CHALLENGES AND POSTOPERATIVE COURSE

Module 2

Principles of plastic surgery (definition and objectives: reparative, reconstructive, functional; flaps, grafts, tissue expanders)
Burns: classification and treatment
Crush injuries and lacerations
Abdominal surgery techniques (laparotomic, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures)
Principles of Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS)
Elements of general surgery (main visceral surgery procedures, stoma patient management)
Elements of emergency surgery (peculiarities of emergency surgical management)
General and plastic surgery in elderly patients (peculiarities and functional outcomes)

Assessment methods

ORAL EXAMINATION The purpose of the oral exam is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections. Gradation of the final grade: Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical skills that emerge only with the help of the teacher, expression in a generally correct language → 18-19; Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to autonomous analysis only on purely executive matters, expression in correct language → 20-24; Preparation on a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make independent choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29; Basically exhaustive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and connection, full mastery of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflection → 30-30L. The final grade will be the average of the voids of the individual modules
