Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student has the knowledge to develop critical skills with respect to the main bioethical issues of the nursing profession and basic skills for the rational management of the ethical problems encountered in the concrete situations of clinical practice
Course contents
Introduction to bioethics. Ethical dilemmas and practical dilemmas.
Principlism: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice.
Telling the truth. Utilitarianism. Deontological ethics.
Ethics of care. Personalism. Abortion and conscientious objection.
End-of-life issues: withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments, therapeutic obstinacy, proportionality of care, euthanasia, and medically assisted suicide.

Teaching methods
Lectures with the use of digital tools.
Guided discussion of ethically relevant clinical cases.
Stimulation of critical thinking through classroom debate.
Assessment methods
The exam will consist of a written test, consisting of open questions and closed-ended questions, which aims to evaluate the achievement of the educational objectives: to know the main ethical theories and the most relevant ethical issues of the nursing profession.
At the end of the course the students will receive an example of how the questions will be structured and the relative evaluation.
