Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student has the ability to apply knowledge and understanding about physiotherapy in the geriatric and rheumatological fields, knows the basic principles of the design and execution of interventions aimed at satisfying the needs of the subject with rheumatic and geriatric diseases .

Course contents

Given the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training program requires all students to complete specific health and safety training modules in the designated study/work placement locations, both online and in person.

 

Assessment of individuals with musculoskeletal disorders and pain management: the role of the physiotherapist;

Concurrent biological and psychological causation of individuals with disease;

Rheumatoid arthritis;

Osteoarthritis;

Osteoporosis;

Connective tissue diseases;

Spondyloarthropathies;

Respiratory problems in rheumatic diseases;

Elements of the study of biomechanics and kinematics of two body functions;

Psychophysical methods in the rehabilitation approach;

 

General principles and approaches to practice;

Demographics and trends in aging;

Age-related physiological changes: an overview;

Psychosocial aspects of aging;

Environmental design: accommodating sensory changes and mobility limitations in older adults;

Functional performance measures and assessment of older adults;

Exercise and physical activity for older adults;

Age-related changes in gait and mobility;

Balance and falls in older adults;

Patient education: implications for physical therapy practice; Caregiving for older adults;

 

Frailty;

Management of serious illness and complex patients;

Impaired joint mobility in the elderly;

Impaired muscle performance in the elderly;

Impaired motor control and neurological rehabilitation in the elderly;

Teaching methods


Teaching methods for in-person classes:

Passive and active teaching approaches will be combined (lectures, practical exercises, problem solving, problem-based learning, simulations, role-playing, clinical cases, brainstorming, group work). Clinical cases.

All classes will be held in person, unless otherwise indicated by the Degree Council.

Given the type of activity and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training activity requires all students to have previously participated in Modules 1 and 2 of the e-learning training on workplace safety [https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/].

Assessment methods

Oral/practical exam.

Four questions will be administered:

- 2 questions related to theoretical topics;

- 2 questions related to practical topics.
