Learning outcomes
The student, through a laboratory activity selected from those offered each year, develops transversal skills in the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the course of study. They are able to collect, organize, and analyze complex information, as well as present the results of the analysis both in written and oral form.
Course contents
The "Academic writing" workshop dedicates the first semester of the academic year to source research and the study of typographical standards, with the aim of facilitating and speeding up the preparation and writing of the thesis.
The workshop is open to all, but it complements the course "Institutional History of Republican Italy" by Sposi, featuring, in particular, research exercises focused on the governments of the Italian Republic.
Therefore, participation in this workshop is recommended for students enrolled in the course "Institutional History of Republican Italy."
Attendance at the workshop is mandatory for those intending to submit a thesis in institutional history.
Readings/Bibliography
The course does not include a mandatory bibliography, but reading the classic work by Umberto Eco, How to Write a Thesis, reprinted in 2017 by La Nave di Teseo, is strongly recommended.
Teaching methods
The course will be held in person in the workshop.
It is necessary to bring your own laptop for the exercises proposed during the sessions.
Assessment methods
The workshop consists of 10 sessions, during which exercises will be completed and submitted within the two-hour duration of each class.
Attendance at all 10 sessions is therefore mandatory, and absences are not allowed.
The 4 credits will be awarded upon submission of bibliographic exercises and the presentation of a paper on an Italian government, which will be prepared over the course of the 10-week workshop.
Teaching tools
PowerPoint presentations, online databases.
