75289 - Functional Assessment and Clinical Tests in Physiotherapy - (CE)

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Physiotherapy (cod. 8476)

Learning outcomes

After completing this module the student will have the ability to apply knowledge and understanding about the preventive and rehabilitative needs of the subject with neurolesion through the various methods of functional evaluation.

Course contents

Clinical reasoning methodology and collection of anamnestic data of therapeutic-rehabilitative and psychosocial relevance

Assessment and observation of functional systems using the ICF model:

Assessment of structural and functional integrity and impairments;

Assessment of activities and their limitations;

Assessment of participation in social life and its restrictions;

Assessment of contextual factors: environment and people (potential facilitators or barriers to achieving autonomy)

Assessment of collected data through clinical reasoning, with team discussion when necessary

Characteristics of measurement scales (validity, reliability, sensitivity, coding)

Levels of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio scales.

Composite and multidimensional scales (profiles and indices)

Measuring improvement

Measuring criterion achievement

Follow-up measurements

Outcome levels

Impairment measurement tools

Activity limitation measurement tools

Participation restriction measurement tools

Given the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training activity requires all students to complete Modules 1 and 2 via e-learning and participate in the third module, which is specific to health and safety in the study/internship environment.

Assessment methods

The end of course exam aims to assess the achievement of learning objectives:
-Know The preventive and rehabilitative needs of the subject with neurolesion
-Know The various methods of Functional Assessment
The final grade is determined by a written and oral exam, the average marks obtained in five specific questions on topics related to the main objectives of the course and the formulation of a hypothesis of functional evaluation of a specific clinical situation. If the only vote of the hypothesis of functional assessment of the case report does not prove sufficient consideration it is to be understood not exceeded.

"Students with learning disabilities and temporary or permanent disabilities are encouraged to contact the dedicated office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it/per-studenti) as soon as possible to discuss appropriate compensatory measures. The request must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the instructor, who will evaluate the appropriateness of the measures, taking into account the learning objectives."
