00914 - Statistics (A-L)

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Moduli: Maurizio Brizzi (Modulo 1) Martina Narcisi (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: E-learning (Modulo 1); In-person learning (entirely or partially) (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in International relations and diplomatic affairs (cod. 8048)

Learning outcomes

After attending the course, students will reach a certain level of knowledge and skills for performing a quantitative analysis of a set of data. Students will be able to collect and analyse a sample of data, applying the right metodology for interpreting different phenomena from a statistical point of view.

Course contents

Reading, interpretation and representation of a set of statistical data.

Mean values and variability measures. Gini's concentration ratio. Statistical rates and ratios. Indices of heterogeneity.

Bivariate statistical analysis. Measures of association. Linear regression and correlation.

Elements of probability. Axioms and elementary probability. Discrete random variables. Continuous models used in statistical inference: Gaussian, Chi-squared and Student t-distribution.

Basic elements of statistical inference. Estimators and estimates. Point and interval estimation of a frequency and a mean value.

Hypothesis testing. Significance level and power of a test. Statistical tests for frequencies and for checking Gaussian parameters..
