Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to develop their own technology-based entrepreneurial idea and draft a business plan.

Course contents

  • The following topics will be explored in depth during the course:
  • The definition of a business idea
  • Market analysis using Porter's five competitive forces model
  • The entrepreneurial team
  • The three business strategies
  • Financial statements: income statement and balance sheet,
  • The cash flow budget
  • Strategic marketing: the concepts of segmentation and market positioning
  • Operational marketing: product, price, communication, and distribution

Teaching materials prepared by the teacher are provided in class.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 6 credits, including 3 credits of lectures and 3 credits of practical activities carried out in the classroom, such as:

  • Student group work on case studies,
  • Preparation of a business plan for their own business project,
  • Testimonials from consultants, professionals, and entrepreneurs.

Assessment methods

The end-of-course exam consists of the preparation and presentation to the instructor of a business plan for a business idea developed by a team of students.

This method aims to assess the achievement of the learning objectives:

  • Know the strengths and weaknesses of one's business idea
  • Know the threats and opportunities inherent in the market to be addressed
  • Know how to correctly prepare a financial plan

Teaching tools

The teaching materials presented in class will be made available to students on the platforms set up by the University of Bologna.
