Learning outcomes

Module A/1 - M-PSI/05 (Community Psychology) - Teacher: Professor Antonella Guarino (26 hours)

At the end of the activity, students will: know the dynamics of different groups in social and community contexts; develop and improve civic and democratic competences (soft skills); know how to apply models of community intervention and techniques of community needs and assets analysis.

 

Modules A/2/1 and A/2/2 - M-PSI/08 (Clinical Psychology) – Teachers: Professor Laura Sirri (13 hours) and Professor Chiara Rafanelli (14 hours)

At the end of the classes the student:

- learns the psychological assessment in relation to the clinical case;

- learn the clinical methodology applied to the clinical case.

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester (October 2024-January 2025) for the Module A/1 (M-PSI/05 – Community Psychology - Professor Antonella Guarino) and during the second semester (March-May 2025) for the Modules A/2/1 and A/2/2 (M-PSI/08 – Clinical Psychology - Professor Laura Sirri and Professor Chiara Rafanelli).

The Laboratory is for students of the first year of the Second Cycle Degree/Two Year Master in Clinical Psychology and will take place at the Department of Psychology, Cesena Campus (address: piazza Aldo Moro, 90 and viale Europa, 115).

 

Module A/1 - M-PSI/05 (Community Psychology) - Teacher: Professor Antonella Guarino (26 hours)

Students will learn how to apply the methods and tools of Community Psychology and utilize them in designing and possibly implementing projects for analysis and/or intervention within the community. These projects will be focused on areas such as psychosocial, educational, and prevention/well-being promotion within the context of the service-learning (SL) course.

SL integrates meaningful community engagement activities into the students' curriculum, dedicated to addressing emerging societal issues identified by and with local community organizations. This active involvement of students aims to meet the identified needs from a perspective of social justice and sustainable development.

This approach fosters experiential learning and empowers students to apply theoretical knowledge and disciplinary skills developed in the academic setting. Through service-learning, students can acquire civic and active citizenship competencies, which are further strengthened through their engagement experiences.

The proposed reflective activities enable students to grasp the challenges of applying the principles and methods of the discipline in real-world settings, utilizing the competencies of the psychologist profession.

Identification of signs, symptoms and syndromes in clinical psychology. Differential diagnosis. Formulation of diagnostic hypotheses and treatment strategies.

The clinical perspective: knowledge, competences and emotions in clinical practice.

Teaching methods

Module A/1 - M-PSI/05 (Community Psychology) - Teacher: Professor Antonella Guarino (26 hours)

The working methodology is based on the service-learning approach that integrates academic training (learning) with a “community engagement experience” (service) on concrete real-world issues through intervention/field research. There will be short lectures, small group work, guided discussions, collection and analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data, production of documentation products and feedback to local stakeholders. The classroom will be divided into small groups that will work continuously on the same project.

The SL includes a part of classroom activities (approximately 6 hours) and a part of field work (approximately 20 hours). The instructor's responsibilities will involve conducting training sessions, providing consultancy support, and offering supervision to the students in relation to:

• Promotion of empowerment, a sense of community, and social justice.
• Promotion of citizenship skills, critical reflexivity, and social responsibility.
• Documentation of the process.
• Monitoring of the project’s progress and outcomes.

In their field work students will carry out:

• contextual analysis;
• drafting an analysis/intervention and evaluation plan;
• design of the intervention;
• documentation of the process.

Practical examples of structured clinical interviews. Role playing. Group work.

 

Module A/2/2 - M-PSI/08 (Clinical Psychology) - Teacher: Professor Chiara Rafanelli (14 hours)

Theoretical contents will be supported and integrated with:

• role-playing

Assessment methods

Module A/1 - M-PSI/05 (Community Psychology) - Teacher: Professor Antonella Guarino (26 hours)

• Attendance to classroom activities, fieldwork activities, and the activity of giving back to stakeholders and the community.
• Participation in the drafting and presentation of a final report or presentation (individual or group) documenting their experience. Instructions on how to write the report and final presentation will be provided during the course.
• Producing an individual reflection on the course and the learning gained using the reflective diary and participating in monitoring meetings.
• Producing a report to the tutors of the organization where they carried out the service/community-based activity in the form of a letter.
• Completing a questionnaire to evaluate their experience in the SL course.

Active participation to the activities proposed during classes and full attendance are essential in order to be admitted to the final examination. The final evaluation will consist in a written exam (multiple-choice questions) concerning the topics discussed during classes. The final evaluation will take place during the last class scheduled.

The final evaluation will consist in a written exam aimed to assess the student's knowledge regarding the topics discussed in class.
