Learning outcomes

The objective of the course is to provide the foundations for analyzing the financial system through its three classic components: instruments, markets, and financial intermediaries. In particular, credit and securities operations are examined in depth. By the end of the course, the student will know: (a) the criteria for selecting assets and liabilities by economic units; (b) the organizational mechanisms of financial markets; c) the equilibrium conditions of intermediaries; (d) the structure of supervisory activities over the system

  • Chapter 6: Markets

Part 3: Intermediation Activities and Authorized Entities

  • Chapter 7: Financial Intermediation: Activities and Institutional Frameworks
  • Chapter 8: FinTech: Technological Innovation Applied to Financial Services
  • Chapter 9: Strategy and Organization of Financial Intermediation Activities
  • Chapter 10: Supervision of the Financial System within the Framework of the European Banking Union
  • Chapter 11: Regulation, Supervision, Governance, and Internal Controls
  • Chapter 12: Monetary Policy and the Role of the ECB

 

The course includes classroom discussions on the main topics of financial intermediation, creating a link between the theoretical part of the text and current events through discussions of current articles from the financial press.
