Course contents

The 30-hour workshop will take place in Aula A via Azzo Gardino 23

Starting from September 18th, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm, until October 16th

The laboratory will provide comprehensive training on the world of audiovisuals and the main audiovisual production techniques, both in relation to the different media and to the possible destinations of the product.

Tools will also be provided both from a practical point of view, for the creation of crossmedia and transmedia content, and analytical, for the use and understanding of the basic elements of audiovisual language in a transmedia key.

In parallel with the more theoretical introduction, with the help of the teacher ample space will be dedicated to the practical dimension of the laboratory. With the request to design some products of a transmedia nature, collectively or individually, which will be analyzed with the teacher and will constitute material for the exam.

The following topics will be addressed during the course:

• transmedia approach to entertainment

• design and production of transmedia products

• transmedia storytelling

• storyworld

• transmedia architectures

• analysis of particularly significant cases in transmedia production

Readings/Bibliography

Max Giovagnoli, Transmedia Way, Apogeo, 2017

Paolo Bertetti, Che cos'è la transmedialità, Carocci, 2022 (only for non-attending students)

Teaching methods

The course includes an introductory theoretical part and a practical laboratory part.

The course includes lectures with the support of slides, audiovisuals, digital sources, shared materials. Furthermore, the course will host meetings with experts in the transmedia sector, providing moments of vision and analysis of specific cases.

The laboratory part will see the work of creating crossmedia and transmedia products.

Assessment methods

The final evaluation will derive 50% from a test of 15 multiple choice questions on the two books adopted.

Attending students (who have followed the laboratory for at least 2/3 of the course) will only take the test on Giovagnoli's book.

The other 50% will derive for everyone from the realization of a transmedia or cross-media project on freely chosen themes, which contains fundamental planning elements. To be delivered at least 1 week before the exam date unless there are justified reasons.

The project must be sent by mail in word, pdf or pwp format developing the following points:

-Goals
-Target
-Swot analysis of the reference context (strengths and limitations)
-Worldbuilding and Storyworld
-Contents of the various narratives
-Narrative architecture: links between contents through bridges, rabbit hole, calls to action...
- Map of the platforms to be used and the expected distribution channels
-Definition of interfaces for narrative devices (graphic and design elements)
- Engagement strategies (engagement and advertising)

In case of failure of one of the two parts, the vote of the part that was passed can be kept and then taken again the other half of the test
