Academic Year 2023/2024

Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop the student will develop the skills necessary to apply the knowledge learned in the courses of his/her programme degree. The student will be able to collect, organise and analyse complex information as well as present the findings both in oral presentation and in writing papers.

Course contents

The workshop course is aimed at understanding how to analyse, by using specialized materials and reports, some situations of political crisis and conflict in Africa. Particularly, cases of conflict and crisis linked to the development of forms of jihadism will be discussed and analysed.

Some basic lessons will take place to contextualize the phenomena. Subsequently, students will be asked to draw up, on an individual basis, a text according to the methods and bibliographical references that will be indicated during the lessons. Aim of the paper is to learn how to write a short report on a case study as an exercise on how to study a phenomenon and translate it into a paper with adequate methodological use of the bibliographical references.

For adequate participation in the course, students are advised to familiarize themselves with the International Crisis Group website: https://www.crisisgroup.org/
