Learning outcomes

To get knowledge about interaction between freshwater fish population dynamics.

Course contents

Interaction between freshwater fish population dynamics and management.

Generalities on the characteristics of watercourses and large basins in the national territory. Definition of fish map; identification of sampling stations; delimitation and mapping of stations; physical-morphological characteristics of stations; ecological zoning; electrofishing; species identification; water quality classes; cartography; water classification; anthropic interventions; repopulation and environmental restoration.

Teaching methods

The lectures are partly done by illustrating the various topics covered and partly by directly involving the students from the spot or at the blackboard. In addition to the theoretical lectures, field exercises on electrofishing technique are carried out.

Assessment methods

The examination is based on a written test: it is a questionnaire of 15-16 questions (multiple choice quizzes) to be completed in 60 minutes. This is followed by a short oral test developed through discussion of the written test.

Teaching tools

Video projector, PC, laboratories and visits to fish market.

There will be a large use of immages and video, if different supports or material is required due to special needs, the students are invited to contact directly the Professor in order to prepare specific material.
