B0309 - LABORATORIO DI METODI QUALITATIVI

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Politics Administration and Organization (cod. 9085)

Learning outcomes

The lab aims to provide students with soft skills that may prove useful in their future careers. The goal is to advance students' skills through practical exercises. The student will be provided with the elementary basics of qualitative and ethnographic methods for analyzing relevant sociological issues and conveyed the essential tools for conducting independent ethnographic research and writing a report that will be the subject of the final assessment.

Course contents

The lab has an eminently practical and operational objective. The aim pursued is to provide the student with the elementary fundamentals of qualitative methods for the analysis of relevant sociological issues. With this in mind, the course illustrates the characteristics, aims, problems and outcomes of qualitative research by showing how it works in some classic research, and then quickly moves on to the application of the method in a real research experience that will collectively engage all lab participants on an equal theme. Students will then be engaged in all phases of an empirical research study, clearly small in size and proportionate to the commitment required in a 4 cfu lab. Each will participate in identifying the topic and the relevant literature, developing the survey instrument, collecting the research data, i.e., narrative materials, processing them and, finally, writing a research report. Participation in these activities will be the subject of the final evaluation. Attendance is mandatory.

The topic chosen for the proposed laboratory exercises will be indicated at the first meeting.
Further information will be provided at the first meeting.
