Learning outcomes

To Know the prevalence, physiopathogenesis, evaluation and management (non-pharmacological and pharmacological) of the main symptoms, particularly in severe manifestations. Recognize intractable or refractory symptoms and the indications and management of proper palliative sedation.

Course contents

The course aims to provide students with knowledge of: CLINICAL PICTURES AND SYMPTOMS RELEVANT IN PALLIATIVE CARE 1. Pain: diagnosis and treatment 2 Dyspnoea 3. Cachexia and nutritional problems 4. Inoperable malignant intestinal obstruction 5. Constipation 6. Nausea and vomiting in advanced stages 7. Delirium 8. Refractory symptoms and palliative sedation

Assessment methods

The level of learning is verified during the course through continuous interviews and interactions. The evaluation is based on the following criteria: 1) competence and detail with which the topic is treated; 2) presentation skills, i.e. how precise is the language used by the candidate to explain the concepts; 3) ability to argue one's ideas, i.e. the consistency and logic with which concepts are exposed and linked together
