Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, students will achieve a basic critical knowledge to address issues and problems of linguistic and/or philological and/or literary and/or historical and/or artistic nature; students will also be able to process such knowledge.
Course contents
1. Introduction to the course. The study of Greek manuscripts: basic concepts of Palaeography and Codicology. The geographical distribution of Greek manuscripts, with particular reference to the Bologna collections and, more generally, of Emilia Romagna. The Répertoire des bibliothèques et des catalogues de manuscrits grecs (Richard – Olivier).
2. The Pinakes database and other gateway electronic sites for the study of Greek manuscripts.
3. Digital manuscript Library: online resources for consultation of images and digitisations of Greek codices.
4. Traditional and digital technologies for the study of palimpsests.
5. Models for manuscript description.
6. Bibliography and tools for palaeographic work.
7. The analogic-digital laboratory AdLAB: training sessions on digital acquisition from microfilm images and on their description/metadating.Basic knowledge of classical Greek is required.
Readings/Bibliography
No extra literature is required, besides training sessions during the lectures.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons and tutorials (guided by the teacher) on the resources and methods dealt with during the lectures.
Assessment methods
A first assessment will begin with learning tests during the lectures and then with a practical test at the end.
Teaching tools
PC, video projector, overhead projector, microfilm reader and camera for digital image acquisition from microfilm, digital literature (catalogue descriptions) and digital facsimiles.
