Learning outcomes

The student has an in-depth knowledge of the linguistic and discursive aspects of the Japanese language in both a synchronic and diachronic perspective, also in its applications in the field of intercultural mediation. Through practical exercises, his communicative skills in all abilities, active and passive, progress towards level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference corresponding to level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) organized by the Japan Foundation, which makes him able to effectively interpret the socio-linguistic and cultural codes of the subjects involved in a communicative relationship.

Course contents

The course will be divided into three distinct moments: 1. Introduction to the theory of audiovisual translation with a focus on Japanese as a source language and, in particular, on interlinguistic subtitling strategies; 2. Translation workshop with presentations in the classroom, moderated by the teacher .FILM: My broken Mariko (Tanada Yuki, 2022); Helter Skelter (Ninagawa Mika, 2012);; 3. Language module with study of the manual in collaboration with prof. Arakawa.

Teaching methods

The course will be held in presence in seminar mode.

Assessment methods

The exam includes an oral test and an ongoing grammar test scheduled for each session.

Teaching tools

The course includes the use of software for interlingual subtitling, video players, as well as the use of audiovisual products in the original language.
