Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student knows the methodology of the research and is able to identify specific areas of intervention.

Course contents

The course introduces the methodological principles of research and the main types of studies present in literature, of nursing interest
At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

know the principles of research methodology;
define the meaning of scientific research in the nursing field;
describe the characteristics of the main study designs:descriptive, observational and experimental.

Program

Definition of scientific research
Research methodology: objectives, questions, hypotheses, and research variables
The main research designs and the foundations of the research protocol
Characteristics of primary literature studies:
- Observational (etiological and prognostic)
- Experimental (RCT)
- Diagnostic
Reading and critical evaluation of primary literature.

Teaching methods

Lectures and plenary discussions.
Exercises on the critical evaluation of studies with special tools.

Assessment methods

The learning assessment will be evaluated through multiple-choice quiz questions and 2 open-ended questions The evaluation will be considered positive if at least 11 quiz questions and the 2 open-ended questions are answered correctly.

Grading method:

• From 11 to 12 correct answers with completion of open questions (grade from 18 to 20)

• From 13 to 15 correct answers with completion of open questions (grade from 21 to 25)

• From 16 to 18 correct answers with completion of open questions (grade from 25 to 28)

• From 19 to 20 correct answers with completion of open questions (grade from 28 to 30)

• 20 correct answers and complete and exhaustive completion of open questions (grade 30L)

Consultation of primary literature sites.
