Learning outcomes

Pathophysiological and clinical principles of pain. Techniques of general and regional anesthesia: the preparation of the surgical patient, induction, tracheal intubation and ventilation, maintenance and awakening from general anesthesia. Techniques of intravenous sedation. Learning of notions on first aid and on the assistance to the patient with cardiac and pulmonary arrest.

Course contents

  1. Pain and its control; pathophysiology of pain.
  2. Techniques of regional anesthesia.
  3. Sedation techniques .
  4. Introduction to general anesthesia.
  5. Tracheal intubation.
  6. Maintenance of general anesthesia. Awakening from general anesthesia.
  7. The medical emergencies in the dentist ambulatory.
  8. Basic Life Support.

Assessment methods

The class is part of an integrated course. The examination at the end of this class aims to appraise the attainment of the didactic objectives exposed during the lessons according to the Guide web . The student will be questioned for verifying the attainment of the didactic objectives by the responsible of the class. The final vote is defined, at the end of the oral test, and expressed out of 30s (i.e. 18/30 the least – 30/30 cum laude the maximum).
