Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop the student will achieve the following competences and skills:
- using independently or within projects organized by the institutionsthe specific tools learned;
- negotiating with others how to use and report the tools learned;
- using the specific knowledge achieved in different types of service;
- assessing limits and potentialities of the tools learned;
- understanding how to transfer the tools learned in different settings by adapting and amending them.
Course contents
The workshop aims at presenting and testing different ethnographic research techniques in order to provide students with useful tools for the observation, description and understanding - from an anthropological perspective - of the professional and organizational contexts in which they will carry out their internship and where they will operate as educators.
Using specific ethnographies and films, the main anthropological research tools, as well as the idea of “fieldwork” will be introduced. Particular attention will be devoted to the applicative dimension of anthropological research and to the ethical dilemmas that this entails.
Students will test - through exercises and short individual or group ethnographic explorations - some specific investigative tools (field diary, participant observation, shadowing, in depth interviews) and will be invited to discuss, from a critical and reflexive perspective, their limits and potential.
