By the end of the course, the student: - knows the epistemological statute of General pedagogy: the conceptual core of the discipline, the areas of interest and the connected modality of research and intervention, its development lines, the main authors of the tradition and of contemporary world; - is able to identify and analyse the educational emergences in our socio-historical-cultural context; - masters the notion of personal identity, its polysemy in several disciplinary areas, its plural declination in the contemporary context and its related processes of elaboration-construction-comparison from a pedagogical point of view; - is able to research the elements of the historical-social-cultural context which influence both the daily nature of work of educators/animators/socio-educational operators and the overall system of the educational services in a territory; - is able to plan and realise educational paths which can support an autonomous personal construction of the subjects addressing to the social, socio-health and cultural services; - manages the collaboration with other professionals, especially in order to cope with the processes of change in the “system-problem” which includes the educational subjects; - is able to create, in the services where he/she operates, an environment and a context of active listening; - is able to educate to empathy; - is able to reflect on the construction of the professional identity of the educators/animators/ socio-educational operators, at a crossing between social negotiations, cultural elements, conditioning, historical phases, affiliations, encounters and conflicts of individuals or groups, identity and family modelling etc.; - knows the role and the educational specificity of the professional working in the social and socio-health services, in cultural, recreational sport services; - analyses and uses in a systemic view the educational system present in a specific territory; knows the main characteristics of the educational relationship; - is aware of his/her own relational modalities; - is able to enhance – in him/herself and the others – the intertwining of emotional and cognitive processes in the educational relationship; practises critical and metariflexivity functions regarding the disciplinary knowledge and the ability to know in relation to the bonds, the problems, the potentialities, the modifications of the context as well.
Course contents
In its first part, the General Education course aims to draw the focus on the elements of complexity and the main problem of the educational experience. Through the dialogue with the studies of neuroscience research and some moments of reflection on the ethical problem, it goes on to address issues that are crucial to future educators in the social-educational services, such as the difficulties inherent the process of growth and evolution, the problems related to the reconstruction of their bodily and emotional memory, the possibility of restructuring of conditionings, educational styles.

Teaching methods
Frontal lessons, role playing games, classroom discussions in a small and large group.
Assessment methods
The exam will be written; for the students who attended the lessons the exam will consist in multiple choice questions, while for the students who did not attend the lessons the exam will consist in open questions. Moreover, for both attending and not-attending students, there will be the possibility to have an oral examination, to verify the degree of knowledge of the texts and the corresponding critical processing skills.
The criteria used for the evaluation refer to the following indicators:
1. ability to analyze a text, linking the various parts;
2. to connect the parts and connect the contents to synthetic professional experiences
3. to elaborate individual parts in a synthetic and exhaustive manner
4. to argue with conceptual clarity by safeguarding theoretical references
5. to re-elaborate critically and implement personal reflections
6. to use, in relation to the professional profile of reference, the knowledge presented in the texts
7. to support and enrich the discussion also with suggestions that emerged in the classroom.
Although all the discussed topics are considered significant for the purpose of evaluation, there are some parts of the course that exercise a greater weight and refer to the following topics:
1. pedagogy of emotions and its relationship with neuroscience studies and with cognitivist psychology ;
2. ways of observing contexts and managing roles in the educational relationship;
3. empathy and tension in the dialectic between opacity and transparency.
Exams will be graded from 1 to 30. The minimum required vote is 18/30
If rejected at the exam, it is possible to have a second chance on the next call date.
