- Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Offshore Engineering (cod. 9249)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide the learner knowledge about the environmental biomonitoring strategies adoptable to assess the potential impacts arising from offshore activities (exploration, production and decommissioning), addressing in particular early warning tools.
Course contents
Marine pollution and potential contaminants from oil and gas platforms: a general view
Integrated biomonitoring: Lines of Evidence (LoE). Main features of LoE 1: Chemical analysis
LoE 2: Bioaccumulation. The Mussel Watch experience
LoE 3: Eco-toxicity tests
LoE 4: Early warning tools (biomarkers) applied in the laboratory
LoE 5: Early warning tools (biomarkers) applied in situ
Tools for data integration
Readings/Bibliography
Several scientific papers will be uploaded on IOL for students' readings. Some will represent the most recent literature on the topic of oil and gas platform biomonitoring; others will be the pillar publications in the field.
