Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student is able to understand the key issues of product design, through exercises on medium complexity products. Through the exercises, the student is able to understand an industrial product, both from a technological / production and functional point of view, to return it through the technical drawing, to develop an innovative product concept and to reach the final design. Through the theoretical lessons of introduction to the logic of the project, the student is able to reflect on the procedural nature of the design activity and on the tools useful for managing the various phases of the process itself.
Course contents
The Industrial Product Design Laboratory takes place following a methodological process that passes through three main work phases: Research phase, Concept phase, Detail phase. Research / What is the problem? Where did the idea come from? In the first phase, the student focuses on the characteristics of the proposed topic and the related brief, trying to understand, through transversal and vertical research, what are the characteristics of the 'problem' and what can be improved or possibly resolved. In this phase the student deepens and refines the ability to compare with the current context, with the user, with historical references, with the products offered by the current market, systematizes the data collected in order to better identify a series of meta-project orientations on which to reason. Concept / What is the form-function of the idea? This is the phase in which the data collected in the Research phase must be translated into a form-function. The tools that characterize the Concept phase are the hand sketch and the fast cardboard model. It is here that the reasoning must be dynamic and open to changes of course to favor the right combination between the shape of the object and its function. Detail / How is the idea constructed? Once an optimal route has been chosen among the various proposals, the project 'skeleton' is set up, going down the stairs to check the project in its vital points. During the 13 weeks in which the laoratorio takes place there is a 25-hour Miniworkshop in which students have the opportunity to have an immersive design experience over three days.

Teaching methods
The Laboratory provides for lectures, reviews of individual groups, collective presentations, exercises, guests.
Assessment methods
The verification of the learning will take place both weekly through exercises and revisions, and through the final exam which will provide for the groups to present their project through the required documents and responding to the brief that will be launched.
