  • Moduli: Romolo Laurita (Modulo 1) Matteo Gherardi (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Energy Engineering (cod. 0935)

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to bring the students to deeply analyze and experimentally characterize processes assisted by atmospheric pressure thermal and non-thermal plasmas for the efficient treatment of innovative materials of industrial or biomedical interest

Course contents

This course is based at the laboratory for Industrial Applications of Plasmas of the Department of Industrial Engineering and it is structured in projects carried out in working groups for the development and characterization of innovative plasma sources and processes.

The subjects of the projects will be chosen by the working groups among those suggested by the teacher, which can span on the following areas:

- Non-equilibrium plasmas at atmospheric pressure for material synthesis and modification, for biological applications and for Plasma Medicine applications.

- Thermal plasmas for treatment and synthesis of high value-added materials

The activities foreseen in the projects will include:

- Design and manufacturing of prototypes of the plasma sources and processes under investigation

- Experimental tests in laboratory for plasma sources diagnostics, for the characterization of the processes and of treated materials, and for the evaluation of the biological effects of plasma treatments (at the biological laboratory Langmuir-Tesla of the group for Industrial Applications of Plasmas);

- Analysis of scientific and patent literature regarding the source/process under investigation, analysis of the results of the experimental tests, evaluation of market and economic sustainability of the source/process.

During the course, few lectures will cover the topics of common interest for the working groups.
